This is an off-shoot from a topic created earlier in the backers section that has been split as two conversations were going on.

Use this topic to discuss Steam tag, their implementation, functionality and your thoughts on the system.

I can see flame wars looming in the horizon. Then again, it's the same with everything that bases on popular votes.

MechaGS

Yeah I can see that. I can also see it being both useful and a hindrance in different ways, especially where certain developers who aren't much loved any more start having their games tagged.

It'll be interesting to see if it becomes a truly useful commodity or not (I'm thinking not!).

TheCloudyEye

Heh. You know what, right now all I'm doing is just reporting tags.The tagging system is buggy as hell. And it looks like someone has already found a loophole in the system that makes their tags unreportable.

LOL, really? Oh god. IMHO, let them tag things as they want. If they want to call Megaman, "piss shit" let them.

But to be this bugggy? Bloody hell. There's really no excuse for bugs in tags, none. It goes to show that still Valve makes shitty software decisions, WHEN there's too many examples, even free software that fares just dandy with user-generated tagging.  Achoooo:

Here is a miniscule comparison, not even finished:

And if they want to go the lazy route of using another company to handle the Metadata, here are lots of them:

I just use tumblr, 'cause it has all we need.

TheCloudyEye

It's a popular vote system. Reporting tags is no different from casting downvotes. It's not like I'm gonna go around calling people stupid for tagging games with "bullshit" or anything.

About the bugs, I've found 2 so far. In the tag list window, you can see an orange line about halfway down the list that say "Steam tagging is in beta. Click here to learn more." If this line somehow overlap any tag on the list, that tag become unreportable. The other one make about 1/4 of the list window disappear. Just look at this screenshot:

You can also see the orange line I mentioned above is overlapping a tag in this screenshot.

@TheCloudyEye

I see. Thanks for the info.

@Bolowors

From 18+ topic that got slightly derailed.

Quote from: Boloworsthis system is corrupted, this probably will happen soon...
I doubt it, since I use tumblr a lot, for many jobs. It just depends the place. But I concede with Valve's policy on this.

When I think about it valve is stuck in a hard place and a rock. If they go for moderation on the realtors side, if shows Valve is mostly interested in the realtors and the games, instead of the customer base. If they let the users post tags as they wish, then the are showing that customers are what matter at the end of the day.

In their shoes. It's a hard place to please both realtors and customers with this new tag system.
